Shillong: Suspected cases of meningococcal bacterial infection at the Assam Regiment Centre in Shillong have reportedly claimed two lives, while 28 Agniveer trainees have been admitted to the Military Hospital over the past two weeks.
According to a public notice issued by the Defence PRO Shillong, preventive steps have been taken in line with medical protocols. Chemoprophylactic doses of the antibiotic ciprofloxacin have been administered to all identified contacts as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have also enforced masking and restricted movement within the premises to minimise the risk of transmission. The situation is being closely monitored, and officials have stated that there is no cause for alarm or panic.
However, no official statement has yet been issued by the government.
