The Meghalaya Poultry Farmers & Welfare Association (MPFWA) met with Animal Husbandry Minister AL Hek on Thursday to discuss stricter regulations on the entry of poultry from outside the state, aiming to prevent the spread of diseases.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the MPFWA leaders revealed that the government has formed a Task Force to monitor poultry imports closely, ensuring that birds from outside Meghalaya do not enter during this critical period. They also submitted a list of potential entry points where poultry might be smuggled in, highlighting that restricting entry via Byrnihat alone will not be sufficient. Other routes, such as Umsiang and Jirang, also need to be monitored.
The state government has tightened restrictions on poultry imports following reports of bird flu outbreaks in Haryana.
