The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday released the updated list of voters in the state, revealing a significant increase in the voter base.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. BDR Tiwari, the total number of voters has risen to over 22 lakh. In the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, which comprises seven districts, there are more than 14 lakh voters, including over 6 lakh males and 7 lakh females. In the Garo Hills, spanning three districts, the voter count stands at over 8 lakh.
Statewide, there are 11.18 lakh male voters and 11.50 lakh female voters. The number of newly registered voters has reached 46,109. Meanwhile, over 17,000 names have been removed, including more than 8,000 deceased individuals, 7,000 displaced voters, and 385 duplicate entries. Additionally, more than 31,000 name corrections have been processed.
The updated list also includes 72,941 first-time voters aged 18-19 and over 10,000 voters aged above 85, including individuals with disabilities.
The total number of polling stations in the state has increased to 3,551 from the previous 3512.
