The State Government, through the Tourism Department, has allocated ₹2,06,98,819
for the construction of a road leading to the popular tourist spot, Laitmurok, located in Markham, Mawthadraishan constituency, East West Khasi Hills. The road project will also include paving to enhance accessibility.
On October 18, 2024, the foundation stone for the project was laid by the Minister of Tourism, Paul Lyngdoh, in the presence of the area’s MLA and Minister of Sports, Shakliar Warjri. The event was organized by the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Mairang, with participation from the local Dorbar.
Markham has recently gained fame for its stunning natural beauty, characterized by lush green landscapes, valleys, and hills, making it a serene escape for visitors. The improved road infrastructure is expected to attract more tourists, which will, in turn, boost the local economy and provide increased income opportunities for the area’s residents.
