Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that the Meghalaya government cannot intervene in the ongoing issue at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) as it falls under the purview of the central government.
However, the State Government is ready to provide suggestions if the Central Government requires them, added the Chief Minister.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the Chief Minister explained that the matter is already under investigation by the central government following his communication with them. “The state government has no jurisdiction to interfere in this issue as NEHU is a central institution,” he clarified.
Conrad stressed that the importance of ensuring that students are not adversely affected by the situation.
He urged the university authorities to address the matter responsibly and prioritise the welfare of students.
