SHILLONG: SSA teachers in Meghalaya are set to receive their revised salaries beginning January 2026, according to the Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association (MSSASA).
MSSASA president Aristotle Rymbai informed that the update came after a meeting with Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday, during which the association reminded the minister of several long-pending demands.
According to Rymbai, the minister told them that the government is currently compiling updated records of all SSA teachers in the state as part of the process to implement the new pay structure. He added that the government aims to officially announce the revised pay before Christmas, and the new salary system will take effect from January 1, 2026.
On the Supreme Court’s directive requiring teachers to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), Rymbai said the state government will take up the matter with the Centre to seek clarity on implementation.
The MSSASA leadership also urged the minister to relax the upper age limit for teachers who have already been in service, arguing that the previous government notification issued in 2024 should not adversely affect those nearing the age bar.
