SSA Teachers March to Secretariat Demanding 100% Salary Hike, Only 10 Allowed to Meet Government

HEADLINES

SSA teachers under the All Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) marched from Malki to the Secretariat today, demanding a 100% salary hike. However, only 10 teachers were allowed to enter the Secretariat for discussions with the government.

The teachers, who have been protesting for over eight days, are calling for an increase in the salaries of 13,000 SSA teachers. Despite several days of sit-in protests, the government has yet to engage in talks. AMSSASTA President Peter Thyrniang stated that the protests will continue until the government provides a clear commitment.

According to reports, the state government would need around ₹300 crore to implement the salary hike, which has been pending since 2019. Currently, LP teachers earn ₹19,000 and UP teachers receive ₹20,000 per month.
