Shillong — Meghalaya Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla on Saturday evening inaugurated new sports facilities at Mawprem Ground, giving a major boost to community-level sports infrastructure in the locality.
The newly opened facilities include a futsal ground and a basketball court with attached dressing rooms, designed to encourage regular sporting activity among children, youth and residents of the area.
The programme was attended by West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh, former Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, leaders of the Mawprem Dorbar Shnong, women’s groups, youth organisations and local children, who turned out in large numbers for the event.
To mark the inauguration, an exhibition football match between Langsning FC and Shillong Lajong FC was organised, drawing enthusiastic crowds and showcasing top local talent on the community pitch.
Alongside speeches by dignitaries highlighting the importance of grassroots sports, the event also featured musical performances by local youths, adding colour and energy to the evening’s celebrations.
The new facilities at Mawprem are expected to play a key role in nurturing young talent and promoting a healthy lifestyle among residents of the area.
