In adherence to the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India’s judgement (Writ Petition No. 265 of 2011), which prohibits the use of black films of any percentage Visual Light Transmission (VLT) on vehicle safety glasses, windscreens, and side windows, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has been conducting strict checks across the city.
Since July 1, 2024, the STP has detected 1,788 violations, collecting fines amounting to ₹13,35,000. Additionally, black films were removed from the vehicles following the fines.
The STP urges all vehicle owners to comply with the court’s directives by removing black films from their vehicles. The crackdown on black films and other Motor Vehicle Act violations will continue, with stringent actions against violators.
