Shillong, Oct 17: The Indian senior women’s football team will play two international friendlies against IR Iran and Nepal in Shillong during the October FIFA Women’s International Match Window, as part of their build-up to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026.
India, ranked 63rd, will face 70th-ranked Iran on October 21, followed by 89th-ranked Nepal on October 27. In between, Iran and Nepal will meet on October 24. All matches will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, kicking off at 6:00 PM IST.
This marks the second time the Meghalaya capital will host the Blue Tigresses — the last being during the 2016 South Asian Games, when India defeated Nepal 4–0 to win gold. The city also hosted India’s men’s team earlier this year for the AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh and a friendly versus Maldives.
Both India and Iran have secured qualification for the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup, while Nepal narrowly missed out after a penalty defeat to Uzbekistan. The Tri-Nation series aims to strengthen India’s preparation and provide international exposure ahead of the continental tournament.
