Shillong Premier League Attracting More Players to SSA: MFA GS Sunesh Syiem

HEADLINES

Shillong, March 31: The growing popularity of the Shillong Premier League (SPL) is drawing more players to the Shillong Sports Association (SSA), according to Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) General Secretary Sunesh Syiem.

Speaking to T7 News, Syiem said many talented players from Jaintia Hills, Ri Bhoi, and West Khasi Hills are increasingly shifting to SSA, as they see better opportunities and exposure through the SPL.

He informed that the Inter-District Transfer window of the MFA began on March 23 and will conclude on March 31, 2026. Around 300 players have transferred between districts this season, which is comparable to last year’s figures.

Syiem also announced that the Meghalaya State League (MSL) 2026 is scheduled to kick off in April, with the last date for player registration set for April 4.

In addition to the MSL, the MFA will also organise the Meghalaya State Youth League and the Women’s State League, aiming to promote football development across all levels in the state.

The trend highlights the growing influence of Shillong’s football ecosystem in attracting talent from across Meghalaya.
