MP Dr. Ricky Andrew J Syngkon has written to Union Minister of Education Jadhav Prataprao Ganpatrao, raising concerns about the issues and shortcomings in the National AYUSH Mission in Meghalaya.
In his letter, Dr. Syngkon proposed increasing financial allocations for improving services, ensuring adequate facilities at healthcare centers, and expediting the supply of essential medicines to alleviate the difficulties faced by patients.
The MP highlighted that Medical Officers employed in the AYUSH hospitals in Meghalaya, which have a capacity of 10 beds, receive a modest monthly salary of ₹32,000 despite their demanding roles. He compared this to other government schemes where contractual employees are provided with additional incentives in line with their responsibilities, lamenting the absence of such provisions under the AYUSH Mission.
Dr. Syngkon emphasized that the inadequate pay structure and lack of support have adversely impacted the efficiency and morale of the healthcare staff. He urged the central government to address these issues to improve the overall functioning of AYUSH facilities in the state.
