Shillong: A four-day international programme featuring the APEDA Buyer–Seller Meet, the 1st Northeast India Organic Week, and the 4th IFOAM World Organic Youth Summit was inaugurated today at Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong.
Organised by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with MEGNOLIA, APEDA, IFOAM–Organics Asia and supported by NERAMAC, the event brought together international buyers, importers, organic experts and youth delegates from 22 countries.
Dignitaries present included NEC Secretary Shri Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Meghalaya’s Chief Secretary Dr Shakil P. Ahammed, APEDA Chairman Shri Abhishek Dev, IFOAM Asia leaders, senior officials from Meghalaya, NERAMAC, CRISIL and others.
APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev emphasised the importance of strengthening global visibility for Northeast India’s organic sector. “This meet reflects strong international interest in the region’s organic potential. Our aim is to make this an annual event hosted across Northeast states to expand global value chains,” he said. He also encouraged Meghalaya’s FPOs and farmers to participate in BIOFACH, where India is the partner country.
The event focuses on expanding global market linkages, promoting sustainable and regenerative agriculture, and empowering youth through international collaboration. B2B meetings, cultural showcases and field visits will mark the four-day programme, highlighting Meghalaya’s and the Northeast’s organic strengths.
