Shillong: Former Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang, who served as a BJP spokesperson, on Wednesday announced his resignation from the party due to allegations of nepotism within the State BJP under the leadership of Ernest Mawrie.
In his resignation letter addressed to Mawrie, Shangpliang stated that he would have preferred to continue serving the party diligently.
However, he expressed concerns that nepotism within the State BJP, under Mawrie’s leadership, was obstructing the party’s dedicated members from freely contributing their ideas and advancing within the party.
Shangpliang emphasized that the presence of nepotism hindered the growth of loyal party members and, as a result, he chose to resign from the primary membership of the BJP in Meghalaya on personal grounds.
Speculation have been growing that the former BJP MLA is set to join the ruling NPP before the upcoming MP election.
