Shillong: The Ferrando Transit Home-cum-Children Orphanage at Mawdatbaki, Mawlai, organised an advance Christmas and New Year celebration at its premises, bringing joy and festivity to its 87 resident children. The event was marked by cultural performances, prayers and messages of compassion and service.
The programme was hosted by senior staff in-charge Mrs Achal Gurung, while the welcome address was delivered by Sister Dalina Francis G. This was followed by an inspirational message from Mrs Naphi Laso, Advocate and Deputy Chief of the Legal Aids Reform Council. Several dignitaries, staff members and volunteers, including Sister Cathreen, Mrs Daplin Buam, Mrs Jesica Kharmanlang and Mrs Deicy Chynret, were present at the celebration.
The festivities began with Christmas carols performed by the children, followed by cultural programmes, skits depicting the birth of Jesus Christ, recitations, competitions and a series of Christmas songs. The programme concluded with a hymn and prayer service led by Sister Cathreen.
Minister and MLA Sanbor Shullai attended the celebration as chief guest and praised the efforts of the institution’s staff and volunteers for organising the programme. He said he was deeply moved to be part of the joyful occasion and highlighted the message of the Holy Scriptures, emphasising that service to humanity is service to God. He also spoke about unity among all living beings, stating that all creation comes from one divine source.
As a gesture of support and encouragement, the Minister extended financial assistance of ₹1 lakh to the institution in appreciation of its continued service to children and for organising the festive celebration.
