SHILLONG, June 08: The MLA of the BJP who is also a Minister incharge of the Department of Labour in Meghalaya, Sanbor Shullai personally intervened on the demand of the casual labourers in North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) by meeting with the administrators of the University today.
It may pointed that the workers under the banner of the All NEHU Workers’ Union organised an indefinite strike from the 1st of this month, to demand from the administrators of NEHU to regularise their employment after they have worked for tens of years.
After the meeting with the administrators of NEHU, Shullai promised the workers that he will take up this matter right up to Delhi to have it known to the Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, and at the same time he also urged the workers who are in the midst of a strike to go back to work again because by continuing with the strike it will further affect them due to pay cuts due to them each day.
The Minister said that he had spoken with the administrators that they should not cut the pay of the workers for the strike days. He said that in his talk, the workers have been urged to express their personal difficulties, and after that the office will prepare the necessary requirements to sent to Delhi.
Speaking with the President of ANEHUWU, Napoleon Mawphniang said that at present the Union has not decided on anything regarding calling off the strike, but they will sit and deliberate first before deciding anything.
With regard to the appointment letters, he said that the administrators must rectify because presently the difference is in many years. With regards to the expression of demands, he said that the workers have no problem with that, but he said that in the past they had also done that but no one paid heed or responded to those expressions.
