Shillong, January 24: Arts and Culture Minister and South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai on Friday inspected the ongoing construction of the Rabindranath Tagore Cultural Complex (RTCC) at Rilbong and announced that the project is expected to be completed within the next eight months.
Shullai said engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) have assured timely completion of the ₹13.58-crore project, which is being funded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The complex will include a museum, restaurant, children’s park, amphitheatre and other cultural facilities.
The minister also informed that the much-awaited Rilbong–Umshyrpi road is likely to be opened by March this year. The road is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and benefit residents of at least eight dorbar shnong under the Laban area.
He said the foundation stone for the road was laid in 2021 by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, with over ₹6 crore sanctioned under the PWD. Delay in execution occurred due to land acquisition issues involving defence authorities, particularly for the construction of a bridge. With clearances now in place, work is progressing at a faster pace.
