The residents of Raid Shabong under Hima Khyrim have voiced strong opposition to the Syiem of Hima Khyrim for transferring land rights to the Khun Longtrai Lai Kynthei clan. Phrangkupar Thabah, Chairman of Sur U Paid ka Raid Shabong, stated during a press briefing that the Syiem’s decision, made in June 2009, granted land ownership to the clan without consulting the Raid’s Sordar or its traditional Dorbar (council).
Thabah emphasized that the land rightfully belongs to the Raid, and such a decision can only be made by the Dorbar. He also pointed out that the Khun Longtrai Lai Kynthei clan holds religious significance, but not land ownership. The decision, he said, was made unilaterally by the Syiem, without following traditional procedures.
The case has now been brought before the District Council Court, which has issued an interim stay on the transfer and requested the Khun Longtrai Lai Kynthei clan to provide evidence supporting their claim. The court will hear the case again on October 30. Thabah also urged residents to report to the police if anyone acts against the court’s ruling.
