Former MLA and MDC of Mawlai, Process T. Sawkmie, who is contesting as an independent candidate under the Mohkhiew symbol, strongly criticized individuals using religious rhetoric to demean and attack others during election campaigns.
Speaking at a gathering in Mawlai Nonglum, Sawkmie expressed concern over political leaders who claim to love God, the nation, and the community but resort to slander and public shaming. He stressed that true love for one’s people should be demonstrated through action, not just words.
Sawkmie also questioned the lack of real change in Mawlai, especially for the youth, asking what development had been achieved. He asserted that God does not condone using His name for personal attacks and political gains.
Highlighting his vision for Mawlai, Sawkmie stated that genuine community leaders are those who uplift the underprivileged, support government workers, entrepreneurs, and those engaged in religious and social work. He urged for a politics of respect rather than division.
Criticizing the sitting MLA, Sawkmie lamented the stagnation of development projects, including road infrastructure, and accused the current leadership of failing to follow up on pending schemes. He compared the situation to previous Mawlai representatives, such as the late S.D. Khongwir, who ensured that development work was consistently pursued.
