Shillong, April 18, 2025: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has urged the Voice of the People Party (VPP) to participate in the discussions of the All-Party Committee (APC) on the proposed railway line in Meghalaya and to present their concerns constructively.
Tynsong’s remarks come after the VPP declined to be part of the APC, citing the need for effective mechanisms to regulate the entry of outsiders before any discussion on railway connectivity.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong questioned the VPP’s decision to stay away from the committee, stating, “If VPP truly wants safeguards, the right platform to express it is within the APC. Why refuse to attend and then raise demands from outside?”
He added that the APC was formed specifically to deliberate on concerns raised by all political parties and stakeholders and to collectively chart a way forward regarding the railway issue.
Tynsong further expressed his confusion over the VPP’s refusal to engage in the committee, saying it would be more productive for the party to put forth its proposals directly rather than abstaining altogether.
