New Delhi, April 15, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of His Holiness Pope Francis, describing him as a global symbol of compassion, humility, and spiritual courage.
In his heartfelt tribute, the Prime Minister said, “Deeply pained by the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. In this hour of grief and remembrance, my heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community. Pope Francis will always be remembered as a beacon of compassion, humility and spiritual courage by millions across the world.”
Recalling the Pope’s lifelong service to humanity, Modi highlighted his devotion from a young age toward the teachings of Jesus Christ. “He diligently served the poor and downtrodden. For those who were suffering, he ignited a spirit of hope,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi also reminisced about his personal meetings with the pontiff, noting how deeply inspired he was by the Pope’s commitment to inclusive and holistic development. “His affection for the people of India will always be cherished,” he added.
He concluded by praying for the Pope’s soul, saying, “May his soul find eternal peace in God’s embrace.”
Pope Francis, the 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away on Monday morning at the age of 87. Tributes have poured in from world leaders and faith communities across the globe.
