Shillong: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H. Pala on Thursday admitted that there are indeed members within the party who want him removed, but added that there are also many who wish for him to continue leading the state Congress.
There are those who want me out, and there are also those who want me to stay, Pala said, describing the internal differences as part of normal party politics. He noted that some individuals may have tried to influence others to create pressure for his removal, but he remains undeterred.
Speaking during a party meeting attended by an observer from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), Pala said that while some members had suggested imposing restrictions on those expressing dissent, he refused to endorse such measures.
In a democratic party, everyone has the right to express their views. We cannot silence anyone, he added.
Pala further said he has assured party workers that efforts are underway to restructure the party at the district and block levels. He added that he has already sought permission from the AICC to implement the organisational revamp.
