Shillong: The East Khasi Hills district administration has prohibited heavy vehicles carrying loads above nine tons from plying on the Mawmaram–Nongthliew–Mawmih–Mawlyndep road due to safety risks.
The order, issued by the District Magistrate under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, follows concerns that overloaded trucks have caused damage to the road and created hazards for local residents and pedestrians.
Officials warned that any violation of the restriction will attract legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The order has come into force with immediate effect and will remain valid until further notice.
