Over 340 Boys Attend Trials for Inaugural MFA Football Academy in Shillong

HEADLINES

Shillong: As many as 340 young footballers turned up for selection trials for the first intake of the newly launched Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) Academy at Shillong on Friday, marking a major step towards structured grassroots football development in the state.

The trials were open to boys born between 2013 and 2016 and were conducted under the supervision of senior MFA officials along with experienced youth coaches. Players were assessed on technical skills, game awareness, physical ability and overall potential.

Following the initial evaluation, 70 boys were shortlisted to advance to the next stage of the selection process.

The MFA had announced last month its plan to establish a Shillong-based academy as part of its long-term vision to strengthen youth football in Meghalaya. According to the association, the MFA Academy will focus on structured training programmes, long-term player development and providing a clear pathway for talented youngsters to progress through state and national football systems.

Officials said the strong turnout reflected the growing enthusiasm for football among young players in the state and reaffirmed Meghalaya’s reputation as one of India’s key footballing regions.
