A one day Northeast Conclave is held today organized by the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS) in collaboration with The/Nudge Institute, Bangalore. The theme of the Conclave is strengthening ecosystems for inclusive development of the most excluded and aims to convene stakeholders, State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) of North-East States, sector experts, academicians, policymakers and Civil Societies to deliberate on strategies for developing a robust ecosystem for inclusive development of the Most Excluded/ Poorest of the Poor (PoP) in the NE region.
The Conclave is graced by the presence of Shri. Charanjit Singh, IFS,Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development Govt. of India as the chief guest and Shri. A.T Mondal, Minister Power, Community & Rural Development, Govt. of Meghalaya. Other dignitaries in attendance included Shri. B Rajsekhar, IAS, Spl. Chief Secretary, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Shri. Sampath Kumar, IAS, Development Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Govt. of Meghalaya as well as representatives of NRLM from the states of Assam, Tripura,Manipur, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Shri. A.T Mondal, Minister C&RD in his speech highlighted that there are numerous livelihood opportunities for the rural communities and cited an example of Khweng village in Ri-Bhoi district who practiced traditional embroidery and had partnered with USHA International Ltd. for mass production and making a tidy profit. Further he spoke about the women Self Help Group (SHG) movement and the momentum it had picked up in the state after 2018.
