Shillong, February 8, 2025 – In a major breakthrough against vehicle theft, the North Garo Hills District Police successfully recovered a stolen motorcycle reported missing from Matia Police Station, Goalpara. The operation, conducted on February 8, also led to the detention of five individuals involved in an alleged cross-border smuggling network.
Acting on credible intelligence, a joint operation was launched by IC Dainadubi OP in collaboration with Assam Police. The first stolen motorcycle, a Pulsar bearing registration number AS-18 K 3422, was intercepted at Wageasi OGC. A second motorcycle, bearing number AS 01 FF 1309, was later recovered from Gairong Bazaar.
The swift action led to the apprehension of five suspects who were reportedly planning to transport the stolen vehicles to Rongara before smuggling them into Bangladesh. The detained individuals have been identified as:
- Rockystar M Sangma – R/O Bagmara, Dabigiri
- Sanstar A Sangma – R/O Bagmara, Dabigiri
- Fozirul Haque – R/O Sidabari, Goalpara
- Rofiqul Ali (aka Nabar Ali) – Age 27, S/O Anser Ali, Vill: Nayapara (Digpara), PS: Matia
- Rakibul Islam – Age 28, S/O Late Jamoor Uddin, Vill: Nagarbera (Paharpara), PS: Nagarbera, Dist: Kamrup
Following their detention, the suspects were handed over to the Officer-in-Charge of Matia Police Station in Goalpara for further investigation and legal proceedings.
