HEADLINES

A historic step for football in the North East was taken with the signing of a Deed of Contract between the state football associations of the region and Japan-based firm Bestserv Inc to launch the North East Premier League (NEPL). The agreement was signed in Guwahati on January 20.

The NEPL aims to create a professional platform for footballers from the North East while helping state football associations move towards financial sustainability. The league is expected to strengthen the football structure in the region and open long-term pathways for local talent to progress in the professional game.

The signing ceremony was attended by Bestserv Inc Chairman Luis Nakawa and International Development Manager Josef Kovac, along with representatives from all eight North Eastern state football associations. The Meghalaya Football Association was represented by its President, Hamletson Dohling.

The partnership is expected to significantly enhance competitive standards, promote grassroots development and provide players with exposure to professional football environments, positioning the North East as a future powerhouse of Indian football.
