Meghalaya Speaker, Thomas A Sangma has assured that work on the new Assembly building is progressing steadily, with preparations underway for the interiors of the main hall.
When asked if the project would be completed this year, he responded, “We are trying our best. I can foresee many things, but I can assure you that we are making every effort to hold our next session there.”
On the total expenditure so far, the Speaker said he could not provide an immediate figure but promised to share the details later. Addressing concerns about construction delays, he clarified that the holdup was not due to labor shortages but the ongoing installation of the dome structure.
“The topmost spire is being erected and since that work was ongoing, it delayed the start of interior work. But now, I believe that issue is almost resolved,” he explained.
While the dome has been installed, he added that the final ornamental covering—often referred to as the “crown” still needs to be lifted into place, he added.
