Shillong: NEIGRIHMS Director Dr. Nalin Mehta has requested a one-week period to respond to the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) regarding their complaints about alleged irregularities in the hospital’s recruitment process.

Meanwhile, the recruitment examination has been temporarily put on hold until the issues are clarified. This was confirmed by KSU leader Rueben Najiar after a meeting with the NEIGRIHMS Director on Monday.

KSU has raised several demands, including increasing the age limit for applicants from 30 to 35 years. They have also called for a gender-based reservation system, proposing an 80% quota for female nurses and 20% for male nurses. The union argued that the current system, which allows male nurses from outside the state, particularly from Rajasthan, limits opportunities for local candidates.

Additionally, KSU has demanded the removal of the condition requiring applicants to have experience in hospitals with at least 50 beds. They also called for an offline mode of application submission, a review of the recruitment roster, and the clearance of pending backlog vacancies.

The union has further demanded the removal of the OBC reservation in Group B and Group C posts in Meghalaya, stating that the state does not have an OBC category. They also proposed limiting SC reservations in Group B posts to 1%, similar to Group C, based on the demographic composition of Meghalaya. Furthermore, they demanded that the 27% OBC quota in Group B and the 5% in Group C be reallocated to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, specifically benefiting the Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo communities.

Lastly, KSU urged NEIGRIHMS to review past recruitment processes and rectify any discrepancies in alignment with these demands.
