Shillong, Oct 14: The North Eastern Hills University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) staged a strong protest on Tuesday in front of the office of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, condemning what they described as his continued violation of university norms and alleged involvement in corrupt practices.
Speaking to the media, NEHUTA President Prof. Lakhon Kma said the VC has nearly completed a year in office without performing his duties properly, yet continues to draw his full salary without remorse. “He has been running the university unilaterally, disregarding the authority of the Pro-Vice Chancellors and making administrative decisions from outside the campus,” Prof. Kma alleged.
NEHUTA accused the VC of misusing his position and engaging in practices that could “tarnish the image and downgrade the standard” of the university.
The association further alleged that the VC maintains close ties with an Imphal-based company, MTDC, to which several university works have been outsourced, sidelining local firms and raising suspicions of financial misconduct.
Condemning what they termed as serious administrative irregularities, NEHUTA announced that it will escalate the matter to the Ministry of Education in New Delhi, seeking a high-level inquiry into the alleged corruption and misuse of power by the Vice-Chancellor.
