HEADLINES

Shillong, Nov 20 — More than a hundred students and faculty members of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) gathered on campus on Thursday evening to hold a solemn prayer service for two students, Stephanie Shadap and Daritngen Pohdukhei, who are currently undergoing treatment at Nazareth Hospital, Shillong.

Both young women, students of NEHU, sustained serious injuries after they were hit by a speeding car allegedly driven by an intoxicated security guard near NEHU Gate No. 2 on the evening of November 17. The incident has shocked the university community and sparked widespread concern over safety on campus.

Thursday’s prayer meet saw participation from NEHU students, teaching staff and representatives of various bodies, including NEHUSU, NEHUTA and the KSU NEHU Unit. With candles lit and heads bowed, they prayed for the speedy recovery of Stephanie and Daritngen and expressed solidarity with their families.

The gathering also served as a moment of quiet reflection and collective grief, as students and teachers appealed for better safety measures and stricter enforcement of rules to prevent such incidents in the future.
