Shillong: Registrar-in-charge of the Tura campus of North Eastern Hill University, Prof. Kailash Chandra Biswa, was attacked by masked assailants at Mawlai bypass on Monday evening.
According to police, the incident occurred around 5 pm while Prof. Biswa was returning from NEHU Shillong and heading towards Guwahati. A group of about five masked individuals allegedly hurled stones at his vehicle.
Local residents from nearby shops reportedly rushed to the scene, prompting the attackers to flee.
Prof. Biswa sustained head injuries and was immediately taken to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) for medical examination.
Police have stated that a case is being registered and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
