This afternoon, members of the Meghalaya Tribal Teachers Association (MTTA) voiced their support for NEHU students staging a hunger strike to demand the removal of the university’s Registrar and Deputy Registrar. Speaking to the media, MTTA leader Dr. DRL Nonglait stated that MTTA teachers came in person to witness the students’ protest.
Dr. Nonglait criticized the Registrar, appointed a year ago, for a lack of understanding and ineffective administration, which he claims has caused widespread confusion within NEHU. According to Dr. Nonglait, the Registrar lacks the skills necessary to manage academic affairs, causing significant issues for students, faculty, and staff.
He further mentioned efforts to appoint a local candidate as Vice Chancellor, which have not yet materialized.
