MSPB proposes Flyover as part of traffic decongestion strategy for Shillong

Shillong: UDP MLA from Mawsynram and member of the Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB), Olan Suin, has revealed that the board is working on a comprehensive strategy to address Shillong’s long-standing traffic congestion.

Suin said the MSPB has already submitted recommendations to the state government, which include proposals for new flyovers, such as one connecting Polo to Anjalee in order to ease movement across key choke points. These suggestions were prepared following site visits conducted during the tenure of former MSPB chairman Metbah Lyngdoh.

“We surveyed several heavily congested locations and submitted our findings and proposals to the government,” Suin said.

The MSPB is coordinating with multiple departments, including the police and urban affairs, to develop an integrated traffic management framework aimed at decongesting the capital city.

Suin also expressed confidence that the development of the New Shillong Township and the planned relocation of the Secretariat will significantly reduce traffic pressure in the years to come.

“With flyovers proposed for critical stretches like Polo and Anjalee, and with administrative offices moving to New Shillong Township, we expect substantial improvement in traffic flow in the future,” he added.
