HEADLINES

The MP of Shillong, Dr. Ricky Andrew J Syngkon has filed a formal complaint with Aditya Mishra, Chairman of the Land Port Authority of India, highlighting various shortcomings at the Land Port in Dawki, West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya.

In his letter, Dr. Syngkon acknowledged the Government of India’s efforts in constructing the first Land Port but expressed concerns after his recent inspection revealed several issues.

Dr. Syngkon pointed out the lack of basic infrastructure, including electricity and network connectivity, which are crucial for the port’s functioning. He also stressed on the need for improved road conditions, a warehouse for goods storage, and a bank to facilitate tax payments, particularly in light of the port’s proximity to the Bangladesh border.

Additionally, the MP called for the hiring of skilled local youth for jobs at the port, urging the authorities to prioritize the employment of indigenous people in roles that can be fulfilled by the local youths.

He also asked the Land port authority to employ competent people and not by some unqualified personnel.
