Nongpoh, September 4: Dr. Ricky AJ Syngkon, MP, along with officials from the Deputy Commissioner’s office and NHIDCL, inspected the proposed route of the Four-Lane Road (Umïam-Malidor) in Umroi Madan village. The visit followed concerns raised by residents about the potential threat to their water source, located in the nearby hills, which supplies the village.
While villagers expressed their support for development, they stressed that the road construction should not harm natural resources or disrupt the community’s water supply. Officials assured the residents that they would carefully evaluate the road’s alignment to minimize environmental impact and avoid affecting the water source for at least one year during the project.
A meeting is planned between the Deputy Commissioner, NHIDCL officials, and government departments to further discuss the issue. Dr. Ricky urged NHIDCL to conduct a thorough assessment to ensure the road’s route does not damage the water source or other community assets.
