Jowai: The Deputy Commissioner’s office in West Jaintia Hills was vandalized as unidentified miscreants broke in and stole several wires. The incident was discovered on the morning of Sunday, September 16.
The miscreants managed to enter the DC office and stole wires installed in the building’s veranda. These wires were essential for electricity, LAN connections, and CCTV systems that were yet to be installed. Due to this theft, the office is currently facing operational issues due to the lack of electricity.
The police have not yet determined when the theft took place, as the incident was discovered after two days of holidays. Additionally, the CCTV cameras had not been installed yet, making it difficult to ascertain the exact timing and identity of the culprits.
According to available information, the office had only one guard (chowkidar) on duty, and there were multiple access points that made it easier for the miscreants to enter. The police have registered a case regarding the incident at the Jowai Police Station and have begun investigations to identify the individuals involved.
