Shillong: It was a proud and historic moment for women’s football in Meghalaya as state players Bonifilia Shullai and Alisha Lyngdoh were felicitated by Shri Prestone Tynsong, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, in the presence of Shri Richard Yanthan, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri D.D. Shira, MCS, Director, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Hamletson Dohling, President, and Shri Sunesh Syiem, General Secretary, Meghalaya Football Association.
The two footballers were part of the Indian U-17 women’s team that recently scripted history by qualifying for the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2026, marking India’s first qualification since 2005. Their achievement has brought immense pride to Meghalaya, showcasing the state’s rising talent in women’s football.
Currently back in Shillong for a brief break, Alisha and Bonifilia will soon resume training in preparation for the upcoming Indian Women’s League and further international commitments.
