Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma on Wednesday expressed his happiness over the increasing representation of women in the state’s legislative body, following the election of Dr. Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, the wife of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, as the new MLA for Gambegre.
“It is a great joy and a moment of pride for us to have the fourth woman legislator in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly,” Speaker Sangma said after administering the oath of office to Dr. Mehtab.
He further emphasised that her election was a significant milestone, not only for the people of Meghalaya but also for the Assembly itself. “It is a proud moment for the people of Meghalaya and for the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. It was a great pleasure for me to administer the oath to the newly elected lady MLA,” he added.
