The Meghalaya government has requested ₹1,14,745 crore from the 16th Finance Commission for the upcoming five years. Key departments making financial requests include agriculture (₹1,652 crore), tourism (₹3,600 crore), roads (₹14,750 crore), power (₹6,207 crore), urban affairs (₹4,820 crore), water supply (₹4,122 crore), forestry and environment (₹923 crore), health (₹1,880 crore), education (₹1,940 crore), private sector development (₹500 crore), youth engagement (₹1,607 crore), and administration improvement (₹1,250 crore).
Additional funds requested include ₹69,324 crore for the Pre-Devolution Gap, ₹500 crore for state public sector companies, and ₹1,670 crore for local body grants. This proposal was presented during a meeting between the state government, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, and the 16th Finance Commission, chaired by Dr. Arvind Panagariya.
