HEADLINES

Shillong: In one of the largest drug seizures in the state, officers of the Anti Narcotic Task Force intercepted a vehicle during a naka checking operation at Ratacherra on March 6, 2026, recovering narcotics worth over ₹51 crore.

Police stopped a Tata Sumo (MZ-01-M-8625) carrying two passengers and a driver. During the search, officers recovered 19 plastic soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing 203.7 grams from the possession of a female passenger.

Further inspection of a blue trolley bag belonging to another passenger led to the recovery of suspected crystal meth (methamphetamine) weighing 10.145 kilograms.

Preliminary investigation suggests the accused may be linked to a larger interstate and cross-border drug trafficking network.

The total value of the seized contraband is estimated at ₹51,13,24,000, making it the highest-value NDPS drug seizure by Meghalaya Police to date.

A case has been registered at the ANTF Police Station, and investigators are currently working to trace both forward and backward linkages of the trafficking network.
