The Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday has decided to fill up the 3000 vacant posts in Home (Police) Department and 500 vacant posts in the Civil defence and Home Guard department.

The development was informed by Cabinet Minister and Government spokesperson, Paul Lyngdoh on Wednesday after the Cabinet meeting in which the Cabinet has approved the minimum and maximum age limit for recruitment into the four departments – Civil Defence and Home Guards, Excise, Registration, Taxation and Stamps (ERTS), Forest and Environment and Home (Police) – of the state government.

Lyngdoh said because of the physical nature of work requiring stamina and vigour, the minimum age limit has been set differently as well as the upper age limit.

“These were the minimum age in these cases is between the range of 18 to 21 years of age and the upper age limit is decided by the cabinet today has been fixed ranging from 27 years in the case of ERTS department, to 32 years in the case of civil defence and home guards department, to 30-32 years in the case of forest and environment and 21 years as minimum age limit to 27 years as upper age limit where home police department is concerned,” he said.

The minister said, “These include posts for instance of junior scale MPS post then UB/AB, SIs, all of these posts which require people who are young at age, so the entry point has been set accordingly and which is why different minimum age and different upper age limit for these various posts. This requires confirmation by the cabinet which is why it is taken up for discussion and approval today.”

Lyngdoh also announced that the state government will soon advertise for 3000 plus vacant posts in various categories in the home (police) department and over 500 posts in the Civil Defence and Home Guards department.

“We will take another two to three weeks to advertise and we should be in a position to complete the process within the next two months,” he said. According to him, this will be a huge game changer in view that there is a clear deficit of manpower and this will help address that problem in the home department.
