Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that the Meghalaya government has allocated approximately ₹900 crore annually to pay the salaries of non-government school teachers.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “We spend ₹917 crore per year to pay salaries to teachers of non-government schools.”
He explained that managing the various types of schools in the state poses a significant challenge for the government, as the combined financial requirement is substantial. Despite this, the government is committed to ensuring that all schools receive adequate support.
The Chief Minister highlighted that non-government schools in the state fall into multiple categories, including SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan), Adhoc and Deficit schools, each requiring different levels of financial assistance.
