Meghalaya Congress Says Budget Discussion Aims to Inform Public, Not Just Find Faults

HEADLINES

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday said its intention in discussing the state budget was not merely to point out faults but to present a clearer picture to the public on how government spending is being prioritised.

Addressing a press conference, party leaders said the budget is one of the most critical annual exercises undertaken by any government as it determines how public funds are allocated and how development priorities are set.

They said the discussion was aimed at helping citizens better understand key aspects of the budget, particularly the government’s approach to capital expenditure and long-term development planning.

“The intention is not necessarily to find faults, but to give a clearer view to the public at large,” a Congress leader Manuel Badwar said, adding that budgets should be analysed in detail because they directly impact governance, infrastructure development and welfare initiatives.

The party noted that while it would not be possible to go through every component of the budget, certain key areas required closer scrutiny so that people could understand how effectively public resources are being utilised.

Congress leaders further stressed that transparency and accountability in budgetary decisions are essential, as the financial blueprint presented each year shapes the state’s economic direction and developmental trajectory.

They added that a more informed discussion on the budget would ultimately help ensure that government spending aligns with the needs and expectations of the people.
