The Meghalaya Blind FC emerged victorious in the Blind Football Tournament 2024, defeating Rangdajied United FC with an impressive scoreline of 6-3. The two-day event, organized by the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with Rangdajied United FC and Bethany Society, was held at the Futsal ground in Pynthorumkhrah.
The tournament was inaugurated by Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, who graced the event as the chief guest. Also present were Dylan Syiem, Planning Officer of the State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs (SRCDA), and renowned footballer Eugeneson Lyngdoh, along with a large audience of football enthusiasts.
At the closing ceremony, certificates and medals were awarded to both teams, while Rangdajied United FC generously presented jerseys to the players of Meghalaya Blind FC as a token of appreciation.
Speaking to the media, Dylan Syiem emphasized the tournament’s objective to showcase the talent and capabilities of persons with disabilities, highlighting the importance of collaboration to provide them with opportunities. He also noted that such events could serve as a platform for individuals with exceptional talent to secure meaningful employment.
The tournament not only celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship but also demonstrated that disabilities are no barrier to excellence and achievement.
