Mawthoh Pastorate Lays Foundation Stone for New Office and Activity Centre in Ri-Bhoi

HEADLINES

Ribhoi: Mawthoh Pastorate under the Ri-Bhoi Sepngi Presbytery of the Ri-Bhoi Presbyterian Synod on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the construction of its new Pastorate building-cum-office at Mawlyngkhung village in Ri-Bhoi district. The project is estimated to cost over ₹60 lakh.

Established on May 23, 2023 after being carved out of Mardon Pastorate, Mawthoh Pastorate has been functioning for the past three years despite logistical challenges, often relying on borrowed spaces to conduct meetings and activities. The new building is expected to address these difficulties and serve as a permanent administrative and activity hub.

The upcoming facility will support church administration and host training programmes for youth, including vocational courses, music and singing classes, and other capacity-building initiatives aimed at community development and spiritual growth.

The foundation stone was laid by Mawhati MLA and Adviser to the State Government Charles Marngar, who attended as chief guest, alongside MIDC Co-Chairman Ransom Sutnga as guest of honour. Church leaders, including Rev. E.S. Syiem and Pastor I.S. Makdoh, elders, women and office bearers of the Pastorate were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Marngar said community unity and collective effort are key to completing such initiatives. He announced financial assistance of ₹10 lakh from his MLA scheme to kickstart the construction and assured continued efforts to mobilise additional support until the building is completed.
