Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar has expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for his relentless efforts in personally visiting various parts of the state to listen to the grievances of the people.
Participating in the budget discussion in the Assembly on Monday, Marngar remarked that he had never seen a Chief Minister engage so directly with rural communities. He emphasised that merely reading memorandums and official reports cannot effectively address public concerns, whereas face-to-face interactions provide invaluable insights.
As the representative of a constituency known for its betel nut cultivation, Marngar also appreciated the government’s initiatives to support farmers. At the same time, he urged the government to allocate more funds to promote traditional dance forms of Ri Bhoi, including Shad Shohkba, Shad Malangho, Shad Kynjuh Kynthei, Shad Puh Lyngkha, Shad Lukhmi, Shad Krud Kba and Shad Lakhongpong, among others.
Additionally, he pressed the government to pursue official recognition of the Khasi language by the Government of India and to expedite the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
