Shillong: A man narrowly escaped with minor injuries after two individuals allegedly attempted to rob him along the Oxford–Last Stop Laban road on Tuesday night around 8 pm.
According to the victim, who did not wish to be named, he was walking along the road when two men on a scooty, both wearing helmets, called him over. They allegedly demanded that he show his ID. During the interaction, the suspects who claimed to be from Mawlai tried to snatch his jacket pocket where he was carrying his belongings.
The victim resisted and shouted for help, drawing the attention of nearby residents. Sensing trouble, the suspects attempted to flee, but in their panic, their bike skidded and fell into a drain. Locals managed to catch both suspects.
Police arrived at the scene and detained the duo. A Yamaha RX motorcycle without a number plate and a knife, suspected to have been intended for use in the robbery, were seized.
The arrested individuals have been taken to the police station for further investigation.
