SHILLONG, July 25: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Empowerment of Women (MACEW) has intervened on the rescue of 5 minors from one site which is alleged to be a brothel owned by the MDC of the GHADC and also Vice President of the BJP, Bernard Marak.
The Chairperson of the Committee who is the MLA of East Shillong, Dr M.Ampareen Lyngdoh said the Committee does not want to speak on the political connection of the incident which has gone viral on news media, however the role of the Committee is to look into the rights of women because from the raid conducted by the police, 5 minor girls were rescued.
She said after having seen the videos of a raid conducted in one location which is allegedly a brothel, the Committee wants to know if there is any truth to the allegations that the 5 minors had been forced into prostitution. She said the Committee has summoned the Department of Social Welfare on the 8th of August for clarification on the incident and if there is truth in the allegation, what is the required action taken by the department concerned.
