Shillong: A major landslide near Laitlyngkot around 4 pm today blocked the Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki highway, bringing traffic to a standstill.
The debris completely cut off vehicle movement in both directions. No injuries have been reported. The slide is suspected to be linked to ongoing road-cutting work in the area.
Clearing operations were underway late this evening as workers used earthmovers to remove the mud and reopen the route.
Traffic to Pynursla has seen repeated disruptions in recent months due to the same construction activities, leading the SDO Pynursla to enforce time-bound traffic restrictions.
